Poems

Words I’d like to call art.

written by William Bowery

it must’ve flattered you how my inks are all about you

every breath you waste are eternal, irreversible

brought out some pride; you’re a stranger to

funny though

your reinvention counts for erasing any trails of my existence

as if i wasn’t there, as if you didn’t learn from me

as if i never met your family

you never did deserve credit for everything you never written

you are not owed the ideas you never came up with

you’re not entitled to hear the conversations you never listen to

you’re not permitted to step outside of yourself in places you’re not in norm

surely, you’re not worthy of the love you ran away from

I don’t like calling my art poems though much might say so, I never think that my silly little writings are ever good enough to be called “art” I always thought that, that would make actual poets felt invalidated. But if art is whatever the artist thinks is, then I’d like to think that this is art.
